Why does a computer programmer go to school for psychology, you might ask? Because he's a nut. I've been interested in robotics for a long time; I bought my first book on the subject when I was in elementary school. But until recently, I lacked the disposable income to build anything particularly interesting. Fortunately, technology has gotten cheap! In a world where a 200MHz embedded computer running Linux can be had for under $100, the barriers to experimentation are rapidly crashing down. DPRMy current robot project is named DPR (short for the Dread Pirate Robots). He's a small mobile robot with a novel holonomic drive, which lets him travel in any direction, turn in place, or do both at once. (In other words, he can parallel park vastly better than I can.) |
